Adam Gilchrist Declares MS Dhoni the Ultimate Wicketkeeper Ever

The legacy of MS Dhoni is so profound that it brings a sense of humility even to the greatest players in cricket history. This sentiment was echoed by the legendary Australian wicketkeeper-batter Adam Gilchrist, who openly acknowledged Dhoni’s unparalleled skills behind the stumps. Gilchrist stated that there is no doubt about Dhoni being the finest wicketkeeper to have ever played the game. Such recognition from a peer highlights the remarkable impact Dhoni has had on the sport and the respect he commands within the cricketing community.

Adam Gilchrist Talked About MS Dhoni:

During a discussion on the Prairie Fire Club Podcast hosted by Cricket.com, Michael Vaughan and Adam Gilchrist participated in a segment called ‘This or That?’ In this engaging game, the Aussie legend was challenged to choose between two of cricket’s notable wicketkeepers, putting him in the spotlight and allowing him to share his preferences in the world of cricket.

The segment began with a comparison between Sri Lanka’s Romesh Kaluwitharana and Pakistan’s Moin Khan. Adam Gilchrist, affectionately known as ‘Gilly,’ had a straightforward decision to make, indicating his preference with ease. This initial matchup set the tone for an entertaining discussion as he navigated through the choices presented to him, showcasing his insights into the game. He said, “ I’ll go with Kallu (Kaluwitharana).”

The former Australian wicketkeeper later opted for the iconic Zimbabwean Andy Flower when faced with a comparison against renowned players like Mark Boucher, Jack Russell, and Ian Healy. Gilchrist’s preference for Flower highlighted his respect for the legendary keeper’s skills and contributions to the game.

However, Gilchrist quickly surrendered Flower’s position to the legendary MS Dhoni as soon as his name came up. Eventually, when faced with a direct comparison between himself and Dhoni, the Aussie wicketkeeper humbly admitted defeat, acknowledging Dhoni’s remarkable impact on the game with a sheepish grin. He further said, “ MS Dhoni, mate. MS Dhoni. He’s lifted every trophy there is possibly to be lifted.”

Gilchrist has recently made comparisons with other Indian wicketkeepers as well. In a conversation before Rishabh Pant’s impressive performance in Chennai during the first Test against Bangladesh, the former Aussie keeper noted to Cricket.com that both he and Pant share a remarkably similar playing style on the field. He added, “ Oh, he’s [the closest to me]. I reckon he attacks a bit more than I did. I played an aggressive brand at that time, but Rishabh, he looks fearless. What I do like is that he occasionally puts a foot on the brake and absorbs a bit of pressure.”
