Adrien Broner is one of the first fighters to react publicly to the lawsuit Floyd Mayweather filed earlier this week.
It all started earlier this week when TMZ Sports reported that Mayweather had sued Showtime Sports as he was hoping to “recover hundreds of millions of dollars in the misappropriated funds and damages resulting from a long-running and elaborate scheme of financial fraud,” perpetrated, per TMZ, by Al Haymon, yet claiming Haymon got “substantial participation and aid” from Showtime, and the former Showtime Sports president Stephen Espinoza, who leaned on his reputation as one of “integrity” when making his own statement responding to the lawsuit.
For Mayweather, there is $340 million allegedly “missing and unaccounted for,” TMZ reported.
The news sent a shockwave through the boxing business. And people are beginning to comment publicly.
“I would never take legal action against Al Haymon,” another former Haymon fighter, Adrien Broner, said in a social media post.
“Some people might say I’m dumb or brainwashed but I’m a loyal individual and I know he did things for me that nobody would do, and if I’m owed any money, oh well, man, he kept me satisfied.”
“I will never spin the block for retailiation.”
“It is what it is,” he said. “See y’all soon.”
Stephen Espinoza also commented on the lawsuit
When speaking to Compas on the Beat, Espinoza made his own comment to say he was “disappointed” and “surprised” at the suit.
“I have not seen the paperwork,” he said. “I’ve been in touch with attorneys, and, obviously, I’ve seen the reports, descriptions, and, as usual, attorneys don’t want me publicly saying it. I can’t talk specifics.
“But, as a general statement, you know my reputation. My entire career representing fighters, making sure they were getting paid appropriately. I did that for Oscar [de la Hoya], I did that for Mike [Tyson]. I’ve done that for every fighter who was developed under Showtime.”
“I’m proud of my reputation. It’s one of integrity and I’ve never done anything to make sure a fighter got less than every penny they deserved.”
“The lawsuit will take care of itself.”
On his own emotions, he said: “I’m definitely disappointed … and surprised. I haven’t talked to him about it, I’m not sure where it’s coming from but it’s a mystery in a lot of ways.”
