AEW Continental Championship: Jon Moxley (c) vs. Konosuke Takeshita
- We’re kicking off the show with a big match here. The entire arena is in a frenzy and chanting the names of both stars for almost a full minute while they compete. This is an absolute tremendous match from start to finish and, in perhaps unsurprising fashion, 20 minutes is not enough time for a winner to be crowned. Takeshita nearly stole a win late after hitting a forearm and knee strike, but Moxley kicks out of it just at the last second. The match then comes to an end after a 20 minute time limit.
Match ends in a Draw
After the match, Moxley and Takeshita weren’t done. The two went face-to-face, and started fighting all over again. Takeshita hits Moxley with a big move, and this is likely not the last we’ve seen of these two.
Grade: A+
I mean, this one was just special. Moxley and Takeshita are two of the best in the business, and they treated this one like it was one of the biggest matches of the year. We’ll probably see the two of them go at it again at Revolution, and I can’t wait.
AEW Women’s World Tag Team Championships: Babes of Wrath (Harley Cameron and Willow Nightingale) (c) vs. MegaBad (Megan Bayne and Penelope Ford)
- This match almost ended before it began, as Penelope Ford and Harley Cameron had a gnarly looking spot. Thankfully, though, everything was fine, and the match continued. In the end, The Babes of Wrath retained their title, with Cameron dodging a moonsault late and then hitting a big move on Ford for the win.
Winners – Babes of Wrath
After the match, Australian wrestler Lena Kross ran in and ambushed Cameron. Kross and Megabad then attacked the Babes of Wrath, taking their titles and posing with them afterwards.
Grade: B+
This was a solid match that featured a ton of big spots, and the end was incredible. Lena Kross’ appearance also was a ton of fun, and the crowd was certainly into it.
Winner receives AEW World Championship Match at AEW Revolution: “Hangman” Adam Page vs. Andrade El Idolo
- Page and Andrade went absolutely crazy here, and even though the match didn’t last too long, it was a spectacle. In the end, Don Callis tried to intervene by getting the attention of the referee. Andrade then went for a low blow, but Page blocked it, and then low blowed Andrade in return. Page then hit the Buckshot Lariat and his title match at Revolution was set.
Winner – “Hangman” Adam Page
Grade: A
This has been an excellent show so far, and anytime guys like Page and Andrade clash in the ring, it’s hard for it to not be a stellar time. This felt like it could’ve actually gone on for a bit longer, but Page winning is the right move, and it’ll be fun to see him at Revolution.
Hair vs. Hair match: Orange Cassidy and “Timeless” Toni Storm vs. Death Riders (Wheeler Yuta and Marina Shafir)
- Cassidy and Storm get some revenge against the Death Riders in a huge way. They win the hair vs. hair match after Cassidy hit the Orange Punch on Yuta, before Storm also hit the Storm Zero and closed out the match. Afterward, things only got crazier.
Winner – Orange Cassidy & “Timeless” Toni Storm
After the match, it was time for the cut. Mina Shirakawa brought down a stool, while Luther was dressed a barber. Yuta tried to get out of it by leaving to the crowd, but in a surprise move, Jon Moxley came down and forced Yuta back into the ring. Shirakawa, Storm, and Cassidy then all proceeded to cut Yuta’s hair, before Luther did a few final snips and left Yuta in the ring.
Grade: B+
While not the best match, it’s hard to fault it for how everything ended. Yuta getting his comeuppance in the ring is hilarious, and the whole sequence was a ton of fun to watch.
Ladder Match for AEW TNT Championship: Kyle Fletcher (c) vs. Mark Briscoe
- This one goes sideways pretty much immediately. About a minute in and both stars are already fighting outside of the ring. There were multiple big spots involving ladders here, including one where Fletcher sends Briscoe flying headfirst into the top of one and leaves him bleeding. In the end, Fletcher retains his title, with a wild final few seconds. Both stars were fighting at the top of their ladders when Fletcher sent Briscoe tumbling down and off his in a nasty fall.
Grade: A-
It’s a ladder match so it automatically gets some bump, but man this was awesome. Briscoe and Fletcher are two perfect stars for this type of match, as they both seemed unafraid to do whatever insane stunt it took to make the crowd go crazy.
AEW World Championship: MJF (c) vs. Brody King
- It’s main event time, and both stars are going all out. There’s some wild moments in this one, including a spot outside of the ring where MJF was slammed by a crossbody by King. MJF also nearly won early on with a sleeper hold, but King was able to get himself up just in the nick of time. In the end, though, it was MJF who would retain his title. The star won after getting out of a nasty looking hanging choke hold outside of the ring by targeting King’s knee. After King let go, MJF hit a tombstone and then threw him into the apron. He then threw him back into the ring and hit him with a Heat Seeker.
Winner – MJF
After the match, unsurprisingly, “Hangman” Page makes his way out. Page has his contract in his hands, and wastes little time in signing it and throwing it at the feet of MJF. The two stare each other down and Page fake swings at MJF, who quickly ducks from it. Page then throws the pen at MJF and makes him sign the contract, setting up a massive title match.
Grade: A
Another stellar match to close out the night, man. MJF and King gave it their all, and this win sets up what promises to be a special match between Page and MJF.
AEW Collision Review
It was a “special” show, but still, it was surprising to see a Collision this absolutely jam-packed. Every match was incredible, there was a ton of fun moments, and it set up an incredible show at AEW Revolution.
