AEW Dynamite on 34th Street results, discussion: Diamond Ring final

Here’s a place to keep up with all the action on a new episode of AEW Dynamite, and talk about it with fellow wrestling fans. The show airs tonight (Dec. 24) at a special 6 p.m. ET start time on TBS.

Obviously, this week’s show airs on Christmas Eve — and Collision is tomorrow at 9 p.m.ET — so both were taped in advance (spoilers here; if you’re going to discuss those in the comments of this post, please use the SPOILER tag) at New York City’s Hammerstein Ballroom. That also means today’s edition gets a special name — Dynamite on 34th Street!

Get ready with our preview here!

Set for the show: The Dynamite Diamond Ring final, pitting Bandido against Ricochet to see who will succeed MJF as AEW’s ring-master, and three Continental Classic matches as this year’s tournament gets ready to wrap up Saturday on PPV at Worlds End…PAC vs. Jack Perry in the Gold League, and Konosuke Takeshita vs. Orange Cassidy and Roderick Strong vs. Mascara Dorada in the Blue League. Plus, Women’s World champ Kris Statlander has a face-to-face with her PPV challenger, Jamie Hayter, MJF will wrestle, Mina Shirakawa takes on Marina Shafir… and more!

AEW DYNAMITE ON 34th STREET RESULTS AND LIVE BLOG FOR DEC. 24

No more paradise, no more soothing rain, all the sacrifice, the pain is all the same. Still I’m pushing onward, alone I can’t deny, I’m just here to liveblog this pro wrestling show for you, folks.

Konosuke Takeshita (7) vs. Orange Cassidy (6) (Continental Classic Blue League Block Match)

Slow-motion stand-off, Cassidy throws his glasses at Takeshita, who picks them up and goes to put them on, only for Orange to scoot in and roll him up for an early nearfall! Trying to catch the Alpha out with pinning predicaments, hurricanrana, la casadora countered, countered again to a side headlock takeover, crucifix… SO CLOSE!

Out to the floor with a big boot, Konosuke rams him into the barricade, back suplex into the apron! Back inside, hammerlock elbow to the spine, seated senton to the back, waistlock, Orange fighting him, flying mare counters, charging in, back body drop to the apron, Cassidy smashes his face into the turnbuckles, corner to corner!

Properly back inside, DDT, mounted punches in the corner, hammering away multiple times as referee Paul Turner admonishes him! Shifting gears to stomps in the corner, Takeshita counters and shoves him away, Orange ducks a haymaker and his hands go in his pockets! Lazy kicks, Konosuke makes a show of being bored and throws him into the corner!

Cassidy ducks under, pops up into the corner, hands back in his pockets, diving Frankensteiner, off the ropes, dropkick but Takeshita is unmoved! Another dropkick staggers him but Konosuke is defiant, Orange off the ropes, ducks a lariat, ducks a backfist, the third dropkick takes the Alpha off his feet!

Takeshita puts Cassidy on the floor and we go to break!

Back from commercial, Takeshita in control, up top, pulling Cassidy up with him, avalanche Stundog Millionaire from Orange and a suicide dive DDT follows it! Back inside, another Stundog Millionaire countered, Konosuke goes for a Tombstone, countered, victory roll pin, countered, wheelbarrow German suplex connects!

Duck the Orange Punch, rolling elbow connects, second try Orange Punch connects, cover… NO DEAL! Takeshita cuts him off with a knee lift, takes him to the apron, Cassidy counters… BEACH BREAK ON THE APRON! Back on the floor, Orange ducks a boot, lands an Orange Punch that sends the Alpha into the crowd and he rolls back inside to take the countout!

Takeshita scrambles over the barricade… AND BARELY BEATS THE COUNT! Crucifix pin for two, another one, still a nearfall! Duck the Orange Punch, Raging Fire countered, small package reversed, Raging Fire connects…

Konosuke Takeshita wins by pinfall with Raging Fire, earning three (3) points for a total of ten (10) points and a spot in one of the Continental Classic semifinal matches.

Gabe Kidd cuts a promo calling Darby Allin out for a match at Worlds End and we go to break.

We get a video package of Bang Bang Gang calling out FTR for a Street Fight.

Mascara Dorada (3) vs. Roderick Strong (0) (Continental Classic Blue League Block Match)

Mat grappling to start, Dorada with a waistlock, reversed to a wristlock, rolling through, reversing to a wristlock of his own but Strong has the ropes to force the break! Test of Strength, Mascara looking for a cross armbar, Roddy reverses into a deathlock STF and then into a Camel Clutch!

Dorada counters into a imploding Romero Special, full extension but Strong gets the ropes! Whip reversed, back roll, Roddy flips him over, land on his feet, back body drop to the apron, enzuigiri from Strong, knucklelock, Arabian press arm drag from Mascara! Clapping the crowd into it, off the ropes, slide through, chasing Roddy… APRON POWERBOMB DROPS DORADA HARD AND SENDS US TO BREAK!

Back from commercial, Strong throws him into the ropes, catches a kick, enzuigiri on the rebound, Dorada up top, tornillo arm drag, off the ropes, satellite headscissors sends Roddy to the floor! Handspring fakeout, to the apron, dive through the corner for an arm drag! Back inside, senton atomico connects, cover for two!

Strong throws him into the corner, rising knee, pop-up facebuster, cover for two! Sick Kick connects, cover… STILL NO! Back and forth, Dorada counters End of Heartache, lands a kick, off the top, shooting star press…

Mascara Dorada wins by pinfall with a shooting star press, earning three (3) points for a total of six (6).

Renee Paquette is on the stage to interview Kris Statlander and Jamie Hayter.

Statlander tells Hayter to stop dwelling on what she had and to look forward to what she could be, and draws comparisons to her own experience with focusing on who she deserves to be. Don’t pity her for what she’s been through, fear her for what she’s become.

They square up, Jamie reminds Kris the last time she ate a Hayterade she didn’t get back up, and referees show up to defuse the situation and send us to break.

Dustin Waller vs. Maxwell Jacob Friedman

Waller here one half of Miracle Generation, former and longest-reigning IWTV Independent Wrestling Tag Team Champions, but against Friedman he eats an ass-kicking. Dick bump, Dustin hauls off with a chop, MJF comes back with a capture DDT and into Salt of the Earth…

Maxwell Jacob Friedman wins by submission with Salt of the Earth.

Post-match, Friedman grabs a mic and “Happy Hannukah” chants rain down. Before he can say anything–

Enter “Hangman” Adam Page, appearing in the crowd.

Enter Shane “Swerve” Strickland, flanked by Prince Nana and also appearing in the crowd.

Page reminds MJF that the contractual agreement to have no physicality got left behind in England and now they’re in Hammerstein, so go ahead and say it, make another lowbrow 1990s misogynistic bottom of the barrel joke at their expense, because he’s sure the casting agents of the movies he wants to be in would love to hear him say that.

No, go ahead and compare one of them to another sex pest in the news because he’s got a whole slew to choose from. No? Cat got your tongue? Or maybe that’s not the kind of joke he wants to make tonight. Maybe he wants to joke about how the two-time champion, the man who beat him twice this year, isn’t a star? Maybe that’s his joke tonight?

But regardless of what he says tonight, Max is getting his ass beat. At this point, Hanger and Swerve have made their way to ringside but Katsuyori Shibata and HOOK unleash the Opps Dojo kids and Strickland and Page cut through them to get to MJF!

Samoa Joe appears on the tron.

He sees they’re enjoying the training exercise he’s set up, and he sent the Dojo guys out to expose their true natures. As he sees the men in the ring right now, it seems the hatred spread further than anticipated, and now that they have this moment of clarity and they stand where they all stand, know that he’s coming for every one of you, one by one.

All your hopes and dreams of taking the title from him will come to an end at Worlds End, so do him a favor and hit that snappy catchphrase to send ‘em home happy.

MJF tries to blindside Hanger and Swerve and eats a lariat from Page and a House Call from Strickland! Adam chokes Max with the chain and Strickland gets on the mic! He has something about MJF that he probably doesn’t want us to know but he’s gonna say it anyway. Max doesn’t hate the fans, he actually likes all of them, especially in New York City, and he loves all the likes, comments, and retweets because it feeds his fragile little ego.

“He’s our scumbag!” / “No he’s not!” dueling chants ring out and Shane says he’s about to be his scumbag. He’s never met such a narcissistic piece of garbage as Friedman and he has power in a toxic combination that makes him more of a Diddy than Swerve ever will be. So let’s talk about the victims of MJF and why Swerve will always be above him.

The Pinnacle. Wardlow. Jay White. And his good friend, Adam Cole. All of them have fell victim and are worse off after dealing with Maxwell’s bullshit, and he’ll always be greater because whether enemy or ally, he always makes everyone he’s in the ring with better. He doesn’t care where MJF goes, whether it’s in a wrestling ring, acting, or as a damn husband, he’s a better human being than Max ever will be.

He drops a Whose house? for Samoa Joe and says he’ll see Friedman at Worlds End.

Renee Paquette interviews Babes of Wrath backstage.

Willow Nightingale needs a pick-me-up and Harley Cameron gives her a pep talk because babes babe each other up, and it works immediately.

Bandido vs. Ricochet (Dynamite Diamond Ring)

Circling, collar and elbow, into the corner, Ricochet hides in the ropes to force separation. A little bit of mat grappling, arm drag into an armbar into a crucifix pin, cover for two! Ricochet taunting, whip across, Bandido ducks under, sidesteps, off the ropes, ducks under, tilt-a-whirl headscissors and a dropkick connects!

Bandido does the Macarena, Ricochet sideswipes him and then throws him out to the apron! Bandido skins the cat, Ricochet does the Macarena, Bandido licks his hand and slaps Rick’s bald head! Big chop staggers the luchador, off the ropes, military press catches Ricochet, one hand… PRESS SLAM OVER THE ROPES AND TO THE APRON!

Macarena follows and we go to break!

Back from commercial, Ricochet in control, out to the apron, suplex, hanging onto it, Bandido reverses, brainbuster on the floor! Back inside, dropkick, front kick, Death Blow, Ricochet putting a run together, Vertigo countered, Ricochet tries again and gets it… BANDIDO KICKS OUT!

Spirit Gun ducked, Jumbo knee counters, Ricochet still in control, puts an imaginary cigarette out on Bandido’s back, Bandido counters, Poison Frankensteiner! Set up for the 21-Plex, Rick lands on his feet, goes for a cover, only two! Off the ropes, pop-up Frankensteiner blocked, Styles Clash clutch dropped into a Liger Bomb… SO CLOSE!

Bandido up top, shimmies, nobody home, roll through, superkick takes Ricochet’s head off! Gutwrench lift into the X Knee! 21-Plex position again but Gates of Agony run interference to block it and let Ricochet kick him low! Spirit Gun countered, crucifix… BANDIDO DID IT!

Bandido wins by pinfall with a crucifix pin, winning the Dynamite Diamond Ring.

Post-match, Ricochet beats Bandido down until Brody King makes the save for his buddy! Brody takes the ring from referee Aubrey Edwards and helps Bandido up and presents him with the ring!

Darby Allin is interviewed backstage.

He says he’s used to knocking doors in brick walls and he’s had a lot of time to think lately and he has bigger things to worry about than Gabe Kidd.

Gabe Kidd, who attacks him from behind so hard he takes the video feed out and we just hear sounds of a scuffle until a new camera operator arrives! Video comes back with Kidd throwing Darby into the wall and choking him in front of stairs! Gabe asks if he’s feeling nostalgic and drags Allin up the stairs!

Big body blow crumples Darby in a heap and Kidd kicks him down the damn stairs! Allin dry heaving at the base of the stares and Gabe mockingly restates his notion that he has bigger things to worry about than Gabe Kidd.

Back from commercial, we get an inset promo where Mina Shirakawa tells Toni Storm that just as Toni fought for her, now Mina will fight for her, and she wants to fight alone, and she gets Storm to promise she won’t interfere.

Marina Shafir vs. Mina Shirakawa

Shirakawa hot out the gates, striking in the corner, slipping out of a leg pick and landing a dragon screw! Posting Shafir’s knee repeatedly, missile dropkick connects, folding press for two! Marina counters a kick, elevated Stretch Muffler and a Stretch Muffler powerbomb sends us to break!

Back from commercial, Shafir ducks a backfist but the rolling solebutt connects, Mina puts her in a figure four leglock in the middle of the ring! Marina tells her she’ll have to break it because she’s not gonna tap… THEN SHE BREAKS SHIRAKAWA’S FINGERS TO ESCAPE! URAKEN CONNECTS BUT SHAFIR BOXES HER EARS AND PUTS HER IN MOTHER’S MILK! IT’S OVER!

Marina Shafir wins by submission with Mother’s Milk.

Post-match, Shafir locks Mother’s Milk back on… TONI STORM MAKES THE SAVE BUT MARINA TAKES HER OUT WITH A SINGLE KICK!

We get footage from last Wednesday of the Elite being interviewed after their match.

The Young Bucks say last week’s million dollar match was bittersweet because they got the money but they won’t be cleared for at least the rest of the year. Kenny Omega says cleared or not, the Elite will always be the Elite and they’ll always have each others’ backs, but maybe now he has some time to take care of some business he should have taken care of.

Back from commercial, commentary hypes up our upcoming shows.

“Jungle Man” Jack Perry (3) vs. PAC (6) (Continental Classic Gold League Block Match)

Circling, trading wristlocks, Perry with a dropkick, front chancery, PAC rams him into the ropes! Snapmare, grinding the sole of his boot into Jack’s face, out to the floor, catching the Bastard with a bulldog and then landing a suicide dive on him! PAC lays him out in return and we go to break!

Back from commercial, PAC gets a nearfall off a suplex, trading vicious elbows, Perry snaps off a sheerdrop brainbuster and both men are down and out! Whip reversed, kickflip up and over into a German suplex and Jungle Man is rolling hot! Perry hits a vicious DDT, cover for two! Bastard with a huge belly-to-belly suplex into the turnbuckles, settling Jungle Man up top, climbing to join him… BELLY-TO-BELLY SUPERPLEX CONNECTS!

PAC crawls into the cover… NOT ENOUGH! Back and forth, superkick from Jack sets up a Poison Frankensteiner, bypass, vicious lariat… NO GOOD! Running knee gets Perry a nearfall… AND PAC SNAPS THE BRUTALIZER ON HIM! Rolling over, suffocating Jack, but he manages to get his foot on the ropes!

The Bastard argues with the referee, off the ropes, head of steam, vicious lariat and right over into the Brutalizer but Jungle Man reverses to a pin for two! PAC takes him back down into it, handful of hair, wrenching it in, Perry bites his hand, la casadora sets it up…

“Jungle Man” Jack Perry wins by pinfall with a victory roll pin, earning three (3) points for a total of six (6) points.

Commentary explains that heading into tomorrow night it’s a six-way tie in the Gold League.

Santasaurus brings Jungle Man milk, cookies, reindeer anglers and a sack of gifts for all the good children in the audience!

That’s the show, folks.
