Afghanistan sign off with convincing 82-run win over Canada

Afghanistan defeated Canada by 82 runs in the 39th match of the ongoing ICC Men’s T20 World Cup at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

Canada won the toss and elected to field first. Afghanistan got off to a good start as Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran added 47 runs for the first wicket. Zadran then added 95 runs off 59 balls with Sediqullah Atal, laying the foundation for a big total. Zadran remained unbeaten on 95 off 56 balls, including seven fours and five sixes at a strike rate of 169.64, while Atal scored 44. For Canada, Jaskaran Singh took three wickets.

Chasing 201, Canada lost half their side by the ninth over. Saad Bin Zafar and Harsh Thaker stitched a 53-run stand off 37 balls. Thaker scored 30, while Zafar made 28. Apart from them, none of the batters made an impact. Mohammad Nabi was lethal, taking four wickets for just seven runs in four overs at an economy of 1.80. Captain Rashid Khan picked up two wickets.

Canada finished on 118/8 in 20 overs. Zadran was named Player of the Match. With this win, Afghanistan’s journey in the tournament came to an end.
