Aislin Flaherty’s late free throws lead Needham girls basketball to win

The Needham girls’ basketball team was down but not out during its latest matchup against Cathedral High School (Boston) on Thursday night.

Despite trailing for most of the defensive competition, the Rockets got a much-needed stop when it counted most. And the timing couldn’t have been better.

That outcome ultimately helped Aislin Flaherty earn an opportunity to score the game-winning free throws with three seconds left in regulation and lift Needham to a 39-38 win over Cathedral High School (Boston) at home.

According to Rockets coach Lindsay Miller, Hannah Levine recorded four of her eight total points in crunch time to help Needham snap its two-game losing streak and improve its record to 13-5.

Levine also contributed with seven rebounds and four assists, while Eva Andrews recorded an impressive double-double with 10 points and 14 rebounds. And aside from another monumental defensive effort, Lacey Williams also reached double figures with 10 points.

The Rockets look to gain momentum before the upcoming Division I state tournament, as they are scheduled to hit the road and compete against Norwell on Monday at 5 p.m.
