Alberto Del Rio Could Face Up to 20 Years In Prison Amid Ongoing Investigation

Alberto Del Rio’s situation just got a lot more serious—and now the possible consequences are coming into focus.

After already being suspended by The Crash Lucha Libre following his recent arrest, a new update from Milenio reveals what Alberto Del Rio could be facing if the case moves forward in Mexico. According to the report, prosecutors in San Luis Potosí are considering two possible charges—and the difference between them is massive.

The first is a baseline domestic violence charge. The baseline charge of violencia familiar (domestic violence) carries one to seven years in prison and a fine of 20 to 700 UMA days, regardless of whether injuries were produced.

That fine is tied to Mexico’s UMA system, which in 2026 is valued at 117.31 pesos per day—putting the total range at roughly 2,346 to 82,117 pesos. But the more serious charge would raise the stakes significantly.

The more serious charge of Lesiones Cometidas contra la Mujer en Razon de su Genero carries eight to 20 years in prison and a fine of 400 to 700 UMA days. That charge applies in cases involving more severe circumstances, including degrading injuries, prior threats, or patterns of violence.

Per Milenio, this charge applies when the injuries are infamous, degrading, or constitute mutilation, or when the assault was preceded by threats, harassment, or prior violence against the victim.

This update completely changes the outlook. What started as an arrest—and quickly led to a wrestling suspension—is now a case with potentially major legal consequences, including a possible decades-long prison sentence depending on how prosecutors proceed.

With authorities continuing their investigation and legal proceedings expected to follow, this situation is no longer just about Del Rio’s career—it’s about what happens next in court.

So now the question—if these charges move forward, how do you see this impacting Alberto Del Rio’s future both inside and outside of wrestling? Drop your thoughts and feedback below.
