Alex Eala could be on collision course with Iga Swiatek as Miami Open draw announced

Alexandra Eala is entering into a crucial stage of her 2026 season.

The Filipina has enjoyed an excellent start to the 2026 season, recording strong performances at high-profile tournaments in Dubai and Indian Wells.

The 20-year-old, who has already beaten Jasmine Paolini and Coco Gauff this year, will look to continue her strong form when she competes in the Miami Open.

Eala enjoyed a breakout campaign at the 2025 Miami Open, reaching the semi-finals after beating Jelena Ostapenko, Madison Keys and Iga Swiatek.

Eala has now found out her draw for the 2026 Miami Open, and she could be set for a rematch with the world number two.

Alexandra Eala could play Iga Swiatek in the Miami Open third round

Eala, seeded 31st at the event, has received an automatic bye through to the Miami Open second round.

From there, she could play Laura Siegemund or Petra Marcinko, both of whom are ranked outside of the top 50.

If Eala were to advance to the third round, she could play six-time Grand Slam champion Iga Swiatek.

Eala famously defeated Swiatek 6-2, 7-5 in the 2025 Miami Open quarter-finals, and Tennishead readers recently determined that this victory represents Eala’s best to date.

Eala and Swiatek are both likely to demand Centre Court scheduling, and with the raucous support of Eala’s fans, the match would likely be a showstopper.

If Eala were to do the unthinkable and navigate her way past Swiatek once again, she will likely play Karolina Muchova or Clara Tauson in the quarter-finals.

Eala could then face fellow youngsters Mirra Andreeva or Victoria Mboko in the quarter-finals, before potential meeting with Coco Gauff, whom Eala has already played twice this season.

Alex Eala’s reaction to beating Iga Swiatek at the 2025 Miami Open

After defeating Swiatek in the 2025 Miami Open, Eala was lost for words.

In an interview with Sky Sports, as reported by BBC Sport, Eala said: “My mind is really blank, I don’t think I’ve processed what I’ve just done.

“In the end I’m still the same player I was two weeks ago.”

“It’s so surreal,” added Eala, who had Toni Nadal with her team during the match against Swiatek.

“I’m so happy and so blessed to be able to compete with such a player on this stage.
