Alexandra Eala’s breakthrough season on the WTA Tour will end with her appearance at the 2025 SEA Games.
The star will represent the Philippines ahead of Eala’s potential appearance at the maiden WTA event in Manila.
Eala will play two quarterfinals matches at the SEA Games on the same day, in the singles and the mixed doubles.
Ahead of her appearance at the illustrious event, Eala’s chances of winning the tournament have been discussed.
Alexandra Eala warned about Janice Tjen
Eala heads into the international tournament as one of the favourites, but her coach has suggested she could be challenged by Janice Tjen.
Tjen, who is representing Indonesia, is just one place below Eala in the WTA Tour rankings ahead of the new season.
Philippine women’s team head coach Denise Uy told Spin: “She had a great training week this past week and the past few days, and I think it’s going to be a competitive field with not only Janice [Tjen], but we can’t count out the two Thai players on the draw as well.”
How high do you think Alexandra Eala’s ceiling is?
“At the end of the day, it’s tennis and anything can happen. But I think she’s hitting the ball very well and she’s definitely a lot rested in her Asian circuit series this past couple of weeks. I think she’s ready to go and she’s really, really excited and motivated to do well.”
Tjen enjoyed a similar breakout season to Eala in 2025, which included a debut WTA tournament victory at the Chennai Open.
The Indonesian talent also won six ITF titles and a Challenger title at the Jinan Open in China in October 2025.
Who will Alexandra Eala face at the 2025 SEA Games?
Eala will begin her singles campaign against Malaysia’s Shihomi Leong, who currently has a WTA Tour ranking of 968.
The star ended the season with 25 victories and 17 defeats, most of which took place on the WTT circuit in Asia.
