All you need to know about Dwarka stadium: international cricket-cum-football ground

The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) is set to begin construction on the highly anticipated Dwarka Stadium by the end of 2024. This state-of-the-art facility, covering 50.4 acres in Dwarka’s Sector 19B, will be DDA’s first sports infrastructure project developed through a public-private partnership. The project is in collaboration with real estate giant Omaxe.

Scheduled for completion by September 2027, the stadium will feature an international cricket-cum-football ground capable of seating 30,000 spectators. In addition to the main stadium, the project will include a range of indoor multisport facilities that can host 2,000 spectators. It comes along with a modern clubhouse offering 3,000 memberships. As quoted by TOI, a DD official stated,

“It will be an integrated multisports arena with an international cricket-cum-football stadium having a seating capacity of 30,000, indoor multisports facilities with a seating capacity of 2,000, a clubhouse facility with a minimum of 3,000 memberships, and other facilities for swimming, tennis, badminton, squash, table tennis, etc.,”

Designed to cater to various sports, the facility will provide amenities for swimming, tennis, badminton, squash, and table tennis. It will ensure a comprehensive sports experience for athletes and enthusiasts alike. The project will cost approximately INR 350 crore. It will also include 3.5 lakh square feet of commercial space, featuring retail outlets, office spaces, and a hotel.

Significantly, the stadium’s facilities will be accessible to the general public on a pay-and-play basis. 25% of the amenities will be available to non-members. The concessionaire expects the stadium to host numerous international sporting events once operational. Dwarka stadium will enhance Delhi’s status as a key sports hub.

Dwarka Stadium: Modern facilities for world-class cricket

The official further commented,

“All sports facilities developed on the site will be available for users without requiring membership. Non-members can use the facility on a pay-and-play basis, and they will be allowed for a minimum of 25% of the capacity of the facilities,”

“Delhi, the capital of India with a population of more than 3.3 crore, has long awaited a world-class cricket stadium. With the construction of an international cricket-cum-football stadium, we are expecting many international events to be organised here,”
