Alzarri Joseph’s cricket career is now in jeopardy after his unacceptable on-field behaviour with the team’s captain. Fans were left stunned as West Indies pacer Joseph walked off the field abruptly during the third ODI against England on Wednesday. The incident was seen in Barbados after West Indies captain Shai Hope won the toss and decided to bowl. The decision proved to be effective as England struggled in the initial phases of the game, losing a wicket for just nine runs in the powerplay.

Joseph accepted a ball in the fourth over but seemed to visibly have a problem with the setup of the field. When he went ahead to bowl his first few deliveries, he motioned impatiently towards the slips cordon, and though he picked up England’s Jordan Cox’s wicket in the same over, he walked off without celebrating with his teammates.

It also worsened when a video was taken showing head coach Darren Sammy trying to compose the fast bowler from the boundary. Still, Joseph kept on visibly frustrated and walked off the field after facing his first over when the team was short-handed.

Joseph took over at the beginning of the sixth over but did not start bowling immediately. The captain handed over the ball to Romario Shepherd, who immediately sent back Jacob Bethell. Joseph came back later into the attack but could not reproduce his earlier success and ended with 2/45 from 10 overs.

But the West Indies managed to bring out enough drama to restrict England to 263/8. The home side, in return, rode Brandon King (102) and Keacy Carty (128*) to a victory in just 43 overs, which gave them the ODI series at 2-1.

The coach Darren Sammy did not hesitate to speak about post-match. He deemed Joseph’s behaviour unacceptable and vowed to correct it. “We’re building a culture where discipline and team spirit are non-negotiable,” Sammy said.

Now that the ODI series has ended on a winning note for the West Indies, both England and West Indies start out on a five-match T20I series on November 10 at the Kensington Oval. Fans are really curious to see how Joseph goes against England.
