Americans Abroad Midweek Rewind: Richards, McKennie, and more

Crystal Palace’s first-ever European campaign is going to plan nicely.

Chris Richards and the Eagles picked up their third UEFA Conference League victory on Thursday, defeating Irish club Shelbourne 3-0 in Dublin. The U.S. men’s national team defender logged his latest 90 minutes in Oliver Glasner’s backline, while also helping the Eagles extend their winning streak to three matches in all competitions.

A trio of first-half goals sent Crystal Palace on its way to three points, moving the South London club up to ninth place in the standings. Richards hit the crossbar once while, also winning 10 duels and making two tackles.

The 25-year-old has now made 21 appearances for the reigning FA Cup winners this season.

Up next for Glasner’s men is a top-four league home date with Manchester City, the same club that they defeated in May’s FA Cup Final.

In Europe, Weston McKennie, Ricardo Pepi, and Folarin Balogun all scored in UEFA Champions League play. Auston Trusty and Celtic suffered a hammering home loss to AS Roma.

In England, Patrick Agyemang and Derby County drew Millwall. Josh Sargent started Norwich City’s draw with Sheffield United but left early due to a knock.
