Amy Edgar Re-signs to Perth Scorchers with New Two-Year Deal

Dynamic allrounder Amy Edgar has reaffirmed her commitment to the Perth Scorchers, signing a two-year contract extension that will keep her in orange until at least the end of the Weber Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) season 11. The 26-year-old has been an instrumental player for the Scorchers, and her re-signing is a significant boost for the team as they look ahead to WBBL|10.

Edgar had a stellar campaign in WBBL|09, emerging as one of the league’s standout performers. She took a team-high 20 wickets at an average of 16.1, with a miserly economy rate of 6.75. Her consistent performances earned her a well-deserved spot in the WBBL Team of the Tournament for the first time, cementing her status as one of the competition’s leading allrounders.

One of the highlights of Edgar’s season was her match-winning display against the Sydney Sixers at the WACA Ground. In that game, she delivered career-best figures of 4-19 from her four overs, showcasing her ability to turn the game in her team’s favor with her spin bowling. Edgar’s control over pace and length has made her a key figure in the Scorchers’ bowling lineup. Her strike rate of 14.1 and bowling average of 15.95 are the best of any Scorcher who has taken more than 20 WBBL wickets, underscoring her effectiveness with the ball.

What makes Edgar’s journey even more impressive is that she took up spin bowling just three seasons ago. Previously known as a specialist batter, she has quickly developed into one of the WBBL’s most dangerous spin bowlers. Alongside fellow spinners Alana King and Lilly Mills, Edgar is now central to what has become one of the league’s most potent spin attacks.

In addition to her bowling prowess, Edgar is also a powerful hitter with the bat. Her ability to score quickly from the middle order has been crucial for the Scorchers and Western Australia in several match-winning innings. This all-round capability makes her an invaluable asset to the team.

Reflecting on her contract extension, Edgar expressed her excitement about continuing her journey with the Scorchers. “I’m very excited to be sticking around for the next two years. I have absolutely loved my time with the Club so far and I can’t imagine playing anywhere else,” she said. Edgar also highlighted the importance of team stability and trust, which she believes will be key to the Scorchers’ success in the upcoming season. “To be able to perform consistently last season, particularly with the ball, was really pleasing and I hope I can build on that form heading into WBBL|10,” she added.

The Perth Scorchers are looking to bounce back from a disappointing finish in WBBL|09. Edgar’s form and leadership will be crucial as the team aims to reclaim the WBBL title. The Scorchers still have two local and two international spots to fill on their roster before their season opener against the Melbourne Stars at the WACA Ground on Sunday, October 27.
