Emerging from All of these factors, Jacob Bethell could probably be the person signing a hefty princely sum of INR 2.6 crores in the mega auction of IPL 2025 in Jeddah. The head coach of Royal Challengers Bengaluru Andy Flower believes that the England cricket all-rounder has a very high ceiling.
He comes on the heels of his T20I and ODI debuts from a tour to Australia last September with a first Test in this ongoing match against New Zealand in Christchurch, right after securing his very first contract from Indian Premier League (IPL).
“Jacob Bethell is a very high ceiling player. I think our fans will enjoy watching him play when he plays for us. He is a left-hander, a beautiful striker of purdy ball, the timer of the ball, hits very beautifully over cover, slog sweeps spinners, ramps quick bowlers, and would not only be someone to whom we will look as a batsman this year but he has the potential to add more growth, then we can imagine returning reward in the years to come too,” said Flower, former England head coach, in a statement.
Such potential was extended towards the young England Captain, Ben Stokes. “He’s an incredibly talented kid that’s got a really high ceiling. You can see something quite very special in him, like that moment when he faced Hazlewood and slammed that full ball off the front foot. Those little moments show he’s got it. We don’t make decisions on a whim; there’s thought and process behind it, and we are very excited to see him get going,” he told reporters.
So it has turned out in 2024 to be a year of great successes for Bethell, left-handed batsman and left-arm spinner, where good showings in the T20 Blast for Warwickshire and the Hundred for Birmingham Phoenix have seen him capped by England at all formats.
“He has looked totally at home in international cricket, which is an extraordinary term for a guy who has barely played any cricket really. He seems to be made of the right stuff, his technique looks quite simple, not too much movement, no big trigger movements and looks like he has got great control,” said England batting great Sir Alastair Cook
