Antim Panghal’s Entourage Deported from Paris 2024 Olympics Following Incident

Indian wrestler Antim Panghal’s Olympic experience at Paris 2024 has taken a dramatic turn as her entourage faces deportation following a security incident involving her sister, Nisha. The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has confirmed the cancellation of Panghal’s accreditation after Nisha attempted to use her sister’s credentials to enter the Olympic Games Village, resulting in her detention by police.

Incident Details and Immediate Response

The incident unfolded earlier today, prompting a swift response from IOA officials who rushed to the Saint Denis police station to address the situation. Nisha was questioned by authorities but was released shortly thereafter. However, the repercussions were severe, as the authorities decided to deport Antim’s entire entourage due to the breach of security protocols.

This incident has raised significant concerns regarding the conduct of athletes and their support teams during the Olympics. The stringent security measures in place at the Games are designed to ensure the safety and integrity of the event, and any violation can lead to serious consequences.

Antim Panghal’s Olympic Performance

Antim Panghal, a promising talent in Indian wrestling, faced a disappointing defeat in her Olympic debut. Competing in the women’s 53 kg category, she suffered a humiliating 0-10 loss to Turkey’s Zeynep Yetgil, who achieved victory by “Technical Superiority” within just 101 seconds. This defeat marked a significant setback for Panghal, who had high hopes of contending for a medal.

Her aspirations of advancing to the repechage rounds, which would have allowed her another opportunity to compete for a bronze medal, were extinguished when Yetgil lost to Germany’s Annika Wendle in the quarterfinals. This turn of events left Panghal without a path to redemption in the tournament, making her Olympic journey even more disheartening.

Antim’s disqualification and the subsequent deportation of her entourage have added to the challenges faced by Indian wrestlers at the Paris 2024 Olympics. Earlier in the competition, veteran wrestler Vinesh Phogat was disqualified from her gold medal bout for being 100 grams over the weight limit, while Nisha Dahiya also exited the tournament after her quarterfinal match.
