Ralf Schumacher has thrown his weight behind Kimi Antonelli in his prediction of the favourite to win the 2026 drivers’ championship.
“My gut feeling is that Kimi Antonelli will win.”

Speaking on the Backstage Boxengasse podcast, the former F1 driver cited how the Mercedes team now has what he considers a top driver lineup, giving Antonelli the best chance of sealing a drivers’ championship crown.
“Mercedes now has two top drivers in George Russell and Kimi Antonelli. They have the best chances because the car was strong and fast from the outset,” Schumacher began.

The former Williams F1 driver, however, concluded by highlighting that he feels Antonelli could end the campaign as world champion.
“My gut feeling is that Kimi Antonelli will win,” he added.
Antonelli’s debut year saw him record several impressive results, including multiple podium finishes. The young Italian, in his outlook ahead of the new campaign, also voiced his desire to fight for a drivers’ championship, a sentiment echoed by former F1 team owner Giancarlo Minardi.
Wolff outlines timeline for Antonelli’s championship challenge
Earlier, Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff pointed out when he expects Antonelli to mount a serious championship challenge.
The Austrian motorsport chief, in his assessment of the team’s current driver lineup, admitted Russell is ready to fight for a drivers’ championship but was more measured in his thoughts on Antonelli.
Wolff, however, stated he expects the Italian to be fit for a championship challenge within a three- to five-year period.
