As we mentioned Tuesday evening in our socials, we did see a major landmark being crossed this week in the world of lacrosse. That’s the fact that Kathy Jenkins, the head coach at Alexandria St. Stephen’s/St. Agnes (Va.) for the last 51 years, crossed the 900-win mark after a win last Tuesday. This is just in time for the Saints to keep playing and extending the existing mark this weekend at the school’s annual Spring Fling.
There are a couple of things that are remarkable about this streak. First off, in a classic case of parallel histories betwen field hockey and lacrosse, Jenkins crossed the 900-win mark in the same academic year that Susan Butz-Stavin crossed the 1100-win mark in field hockey.
One other thing: look at the margins between these two legends and the second-place totals of all-time coaching victories. In both field hockey and lacrosse, the current leaders are anywhere from 200 to 250 wins ahead. That margin is a career for many coaches.
| Field hockey | Lacrosse |
| 1120 Susan Butz-Stavin | 900 Kathy Jenkins |
| 879 Laurie Berger | 700 Angela Tammaro |
I am not sure whether you’re going to see anything like these coaching performances again, given changes in scholastic sport over the last 10-15 years.
Below in the red are our usual provisional gathering of American scholastic lacrosse statistics from available published sources, including MaxPreps, Berks Game Day, the KHSAA, The St. Louis Post-Dispatch, PhillyLacrosse, and Advance Media. If we can get more teams, state federations, and local leagues to adopt the easy-to-use MaxPreps.com platform, we can aim for as complete a statistical picture of the country as possible.
