Arshad Khan delivered a dream spell for Madhya Pradesh as he picked 6 wickets for just 9 runs in 4 overs and set a new Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy record in Kolkata. His left arm swing tore through Chandigarh and changed the match within minutes.
His effort went past the earlier best of 6 for 13 held by T Ravi Teja and Arzan Nagwaswalla. It also bettered DS Punia’s 6 for 14. The morning offered a bit of movement but Arshad used it far better than anyone expected.
He struck with the new ball and removed both openers Arjun Azad and captain Shivam Bhambri for ducks. Chandigarh never recovered from that start. He added the wicket of Nikhil Thakur soon after and put MP in full control.

He came back near the end and finished the job with three more wickets in the 19th over. His figures now sit at the top of the SMAT record list, a big moment in the 2025 to 26 season.
Match Turns MP’s Way
Chandigarh, asked to bat, reached only 134. Manan Vohra tried to steady things with 52 off 43 balls but the pressure never eased. Kumar Kartikeya and Rahul Batham picked one wicket each as MP kept the scoring in check.
The chase was not smooth at the start. MP lost two early wickets and Chandigarh hoped to fight back. But Harsh Gawli and Harpreet Singh put on a calm and smart 105 run stand. They picked gaps, found quick singles and slowly took the game away.
Gawli stayed till the end with an unbeaten 74 off 40 balls. His knock carried MP home with seven wickets in hand and six overs still left. It was a strong finish after a shaky start.
