The incident took place during India’s big win over New Zealand at the Narendra Modi Stadium. Arshdeep was part of India’s strong bowling effort as the team sealed the title in dominant fashion.

The ICC said Arshdeep committed a Level 1 offence under Article 2.9 of the Code of Conduct. This rule deals with throwing the ball at or near a player in a dangerous or inappropriate manner.

The moment happened in the 11th over of New Zealand’s innings. Arshdeep threw the ball back towards the batter’s end and it struck Daryl Mitchell on the body, briefly raising tensions on the field.

However, the situation cooled down quickly after the match. Arshdeep apologised to Mitchell, and both players were later seen sharing a handshake and a light moment.

Arshdeep explained that the throw was accidental and that he immediately went to Mitchell to say sorry.

“I went to say sorry to Mitchell. My throw reverse-swung a bit too much and it hit his body, so I told him that I didn’t hit him intentionally,” Arshdeep said.

The pacer also spoke about the belief inside the Indian team during the tournament. He said the squad had match-winners in every position, which gave them confidence from the start.

“And it’s a fantastic team, there are match-winners everywhere in this team, so there was belief from the start that we would perform well, and whatever the result is, that’s just the topping on the cake,” he said.

Despite being part of a historic win, Arshdeep admitted the emotions of the moment had not fully sunk in yet.

“I don’t really know what the emotion feels like right now, sir. At the moment it feels good because we’re winning, but in two or three days we’ll know when the emotions sink in, how it actually feels.”

India went on to defeat New Zealand comfortably in the final, lifting the T20 World Cup trophy in front of a packed crowd in Ahmedabad.
