After the first ODI match of the ongoing series got tied, Sri Lanka made a remarkable triumph in the first innings. While batting first, Sri Lanka lost their first wicket in the form of Pathum Nissanka. After that, Avishka Fernando and Kusal Mendis maintained a crucial partnership of 74 runs. Skipper Asalanka added 25 runs. Dunith Wellalage played a crucial knock of 40 runs. Kamindu Mendia added 40 runs in 44 balls. In 50 overs, they scored 240/9.
Sri Lankan captain Charitha Asalanka talked about this and reflected on several spin options. He said, “I was pretty with the score. 240 was good enough. As a captain, these kind of problems (plenty of spin options) I need to have.”
Lauding Vandersay’s Excellence:
After Wanindu Hasaranga was ruled out from the T20 series, Jeffrey Vandersay was named in the team. In this match, he was in remarkable form. After India gave a good start, the Sri Lankan side waited for a long to secure the first scalp. Then Vandersay came to action. He secured 6 crucial wickets just by conceding 33 runs.
While praising his talent, Asalanka said, “It was an unbelievable spell by him (Vandersay). They were more than 90 runs when he came in to bowl.
In the first ODI match, the match ended in a tie because of Charitha Asalanka’s remarkable two scalps in the final over. He repeated his all-rounder form in this game too. After contributing with the bat in the first innings, he rolls his arms in the second innings. He secured 3 wickets in just 20 runs.
At the end, while talking about this, he said, “I am mainly a batter, I have to score runs. After that I can bowl a few overs.”
