Ashwin Highlights Kohli Calling Dravid to Lift Trophy as Key Moment

Team India’s coach Rahul Dravid has ended his tenure as Team India lifted the T20 World Cup last month. After a heartbreaking defeat in the 2023 ODI World Cup, Team India performed exceptionally well in the T20 World Cup stage and lifted the trophy after a long wait of 17 years. After that trophy win, the entire team was celebrating. Ravichandran Ashwin mentioned that, regarding Dravid, the highlight for him was when Virat Kohli called Dravid to lift the trophy and celebrated loudly. This moment stood out as a significant highlight for Ashwin from that day.

India’s Trophy Win and Ravichandran Ashwin’s Words:

After a disappointing 2023, where India’s World Cup hopes were dashed by a strong Australian team in the final, the 2024 T20 World Cup final brought a dramatic turnaround. Despite being in a tough situation, India’s remarkable comeback led to a triumphant victory in Barbados, sparking intense emotions from the players.

During the celebration, almost every Indian player was seen in tears of joy. Even the normally composed Rahul Dravid joined in the exuberant celebrations with the same enthusiasm as the younger players. The team’s unbeaten run in the tournament made the victory all the more special and emotional for everyone involved.

Ravichandran Ashwin highlighted the moment when Virat Kohli called Dravid to lift the trophy and celebrated loudly as the most memorable part of the day. This celebration stood out as a key highlight for Ashwin. He said, “My moment was when Virat Kohli called Rahul Dravid and gave the cup… I saw him hug the cup and cry. Rahul Dravid screamed and cried. I saw him enjoy it. I felt that a lot.”

Ashwin’s Highlights Dravid’s Work Ethic:

Ashwin praised Dravid’s work ethic, noting that Dravid was criticized along with others following India’s disappointing performance in the 2007 World Cup. Despite the criticism, Dravid’s dedication and hard work have been noteworthy.

He said, “I want to talk about a person who is sacred. 2007, 50-over World Cup. India gets knocked out. Rahul Dravid, the captain at that point in time. He does not captain the one-day side after that. He has been with the Indian team. If something does not go well, if the Indian team goes out, if they lose a match, immediately, they ask what Dravid is doing.”

Later he added, “I know what he has been doing with this team for the past two-three years. I know how balanced he has been. I know how hard he has worked to change this approach. I know what he has given each of his players. Even when he is just sitting at home, he has been planning how to do this and that.”
