India recently lost a Test series at home to New Zealand, which gave rise to strong reactions from fans. The 0-3 whitewash came out to be a historic low for the Indian team. While some fans expressed how disappointed they were, R Ashwin came up to rise his concern over this situation.
Ashwin accepted the fact that no one in the team could be more shocked than the players themselves. Ashwin also went on to blame players, and requested them for a more balanced performance.
Ashwin took responsibility for the poor performance by India in the series. He accepted that his own performance was below the expectations, with both the ball and the bat which played an important role in the disappointing match of the team.
He added that the failure to deliver match-turning runs in the lower order added up to the team not being able to make a big impact.
“We have been hit by a 3-0 loss to New Zealand. I read that it has never happened in India in history. I don’t know how to react to it. I know that in my career and in my experience in cricket, we don’t have so many emotions when we play. But it’s a very shattering experience. That’s the right word for it. I didn’t know how to react or respond to it for the last 2-3 days,” Ashwin said on his YouTube channel.
“I expect a lot from myself. I am a guy who says I am the reason for everything that went wrong. I am also a big reason and a big part of it (series loss). I couldn’t contribute to the lower-order runs. As a bowler, I know that runs are a vital currency for a bowler. I started well in many places, then I threw it away on a couple of occasions. I put my best but it wasn’t enough,” Ashwin added.
