The Assam Cricket Association has introduced a novel approach for the upcoming domestic season by adopting split coaching. This marks a significant shift in their strategy, aiming to enhance team performance through specialized coaching. By dividing responsibilities among different coaches, the association seeks to address various aspects of the game more effectively, ensuring a more focused and comprehensive training regimen. This innovative move is expected to bring fresh dynamics to Assam’s cricketing setup and boost their competitive edge in the domestic circuit.
Assam Cricket Association Chose Spit Coaching For The First Time:
Vivek Jaisimha has been appointed as the head coach for the senior men’s team in red-ball tournaments, while RX Murali will take charge of the shorter formats. This strategic split aims to provide specialized guidance tailored to each format, enhancing the team’s overall performance and preparation for upcoming domestic and international fixtures. The move reflects a targeted approach to developing skills for different formats of the game.
Sources from the Assam Cricket Association (ACA) revealed that the decision to appoint separate coaches for different formats was made with the extensive season in view. This strategic move is intended to ensure focused and effective coaching throughout the long season, allowing specialized training to enhance the team’s performance in both red-ball and shorter formats.
That source said, “ Over the years we have observed that due to a long season, the players and the coaching staff often get fatigued as they switch formats. So, the apex council decided to have separate coaches for red-ball and white-ball cricket. It’s the first time we made such a decision and if it works out, we will continue it in the future.”
Assam has shown strong performance in white-ball cricket recently, making the Vijay Hazare Trophy semifinals in 2022 and advancing to the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy semifinals last year, where they were defeated by Baroda. However, the team has faced challenges in progressing to the knockout stages of the Ranji Trophy.
That source further said, “ Cricket has changed immensely over a period of time and it’s all about expertise. While we had good starts in Ranji Trophy, we somehow failed to keep the momentum going in the later stage. Now, with a different set-up of coaches, we hope things will improve.”

Jaisimha and Murali Take Coaching Roles:
Jaisimha is the son of the legendary M.L. Jaisimha and has played 78 first-class and 19 List-A matches for Hyderabad and Goa. Having previously coached Assam’s age-group teams, the association sees his promotion to head coach as a strategic move. They believe his experience and insights will be pivotal in guiding the team towards their objectives.
Murali, based in Bengaluru, has recently worked with the Nagaland Cricket Association and boasts a distinguished coaching career. He has mentored notable players like K.L. Rahul and Mayank Agarwal. Currently, he is the coach of the Mysore Warriors in the ongoing Maharaja Cup. His extensive experience and successful track record make him a valuable addition to the coaching setup for the shorter formats.
