Dallas Mavericks star Anthony Davis is reportedly on the radar of the Atlanta Hawks.
Since getting traded to the Dallas Mavericks last season, Anthony Davis has never looked well-settled within the franchise.
Moreover, multiple injuries have only held back Davis during his stint with the Mavericks. Keeping that in mind, the NBA rumor mill is buzzing with trade rumors surrounding the Mavs’ big man.
After Nico Harrison was fired, where could Anthony Davis be traded to?
One Eastern Conference side that is reportedly interested in the services of Davis is none other than the Atlanta Hawks.
Chris Haynes says the Atlanta Hawks remain ‘very intrigued’ to acquire Anthony Davis
Despite a solid start to the 2025-26 NBA season, the Hawks have quickly fallen down the pecking order in the East.
After all, they are currently the 10th seed in the conference with an underwhelming 15-17 record. Many believe a trade soon could help the Hawks make a run for the postseason.
With Kristaps Porzingis dealing with illness, a healthy Davis could be a solid replacement for the former Boston Celtics star.
“The Atlanta Hawks remain very intrigued with the possibility of acquiring Anthony Davis via a trade. The Hawks, they possess a pretty attractive asset package,” NBA insider Chris Haynes stated.
He added: “But if you look at where AD is at in his career, he has this season and next season left, and after that he could become a free agent with a player option.
“So, any team that tries to acquire him will have to really consider giving him an extension.”
Davis’ current deal is not cheap as he’s making $54.1m this season, and if he opts into his player option for the 2027-28 season, he’ll be making $62.7m.
The Atlanta Hawks have no plans to give up Trae Young in a trade for Anthony Davis
Coming back to the Hawks, star guard Trae Young is waiting for a new contract extension from the team.
From a financial standpoint, keeping him and AD on the roster at the same time would be very expensive. But considering from a basketball point of view, the partnership could be lethal.
It seems the Hawks are leaning towards the second option if they indeed decide to acquire Davis via a trade this season.

“If a deal was able to materialize between the Hawks and Dallas Mavericks, I was told, it would not involve Trae Young,” Haynes continued.
“Dallas would likely want expiring deals, young assets, and picks, and probably the No. 1 pick from last season, Zaccharie Risacher,” he concluded.
In case the Mavericks move Davis, they’ll likely build around Cooper Flagg. So, it makes sense to go young rather than acquire players who are already in their prime.
