Arthur Fils’ 2025 ATP season did not go to plan.
The Frenchman, one of the brightest talents on Tour, was left watching on from the sidelines for the majority of the season due to a persistent back injury which hampered his progress.
The injury issues began in the lead up to the French Open, and Fils later admitted that he regretted participating in the event.
The former world number 14 last played a competitive match since August at the Canadian Open. Fils is set to make his return in 2026, six months after his last competitive match on the Tour.
In that match, he lost to world number 17 Jiri Lehecka, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4.

Arthur Fils is set to play at the 2026 Montpellier Open
On Monday, Arthur Fils’ return to the ATP circuit was confirmed in a post on the Montpellier Open X [Twitter] page.
The Frenchman is set to play in the event for the first time since 2023, when he reached the semi-final stage.
French tennis fans will be delighted at the news of his return. After all, he is considered the most promising French talent on the ATP Tour.

At 21 years old, the young Frenchman has already won three ATP Tour titles, the last being at the 2024 Tokyo Open. He will look to add to that total in 2026.
The Montpellier Open, held in France, is set to take place from February 1 to 8.

It remains to be seen whether Fils will participate in any events before the Montpellier Open. If he so wishes, the Frenchman could participate in the Australian Open – he reached the third round at the 2025 event.
