Sayali Satghare has enjoyed a promising outing on her Test debut despite the India Women being in a difficult position after Day 2 of the ongoing one-off Pink-Ball Test against the Australia Women in Perth. The pacer picked up four wickets in Australia’s first innings.
During the post-Day 2 press conference, Satghare opened up about her feelings on making her debut at the WACA Ground, stating: “It’s been great and I think the first couple of days for me have not sunk in yet. I guess I’ll take some time to realize what has happened.”
She also added that the WACA wicket has been helpful for pacers. “The pace bounce and everything, what you want as a fast bowler. So that’s there and plus the pink ball, it’s doing a lot. So yes, definitely enjoyed bowling there. As I said, under lights it’s swinging a lot. So glad that I could just, you know, hit the right areas,” she said.
On Day 1, she bagged her maiden wicket in the form of Australian opener Georgia Voll, bowling a sharp inswinger that jagged back into the batter and shattered the stumps. Talking about that delivery, Satghare said it was the only ball that really swung a lot. She remarked with joy, “glad that it did hit the stumps and did not miss it also.”
After being bundled out for 198, India conceded a lead of 125 runs as Australia managed 323 in their first innings. Satghare finished with a four-wicket haul. By the end of Day 2, India were 105/6, still trailing by 20 runs.
When asked about a possible target India could defend, Satghare responded: “I think maybe around 150-200 will be good. As I said, the wicket is doing a bit and pink ball helps us as bowlers. So maybe 150-200 would be good. So we can make a match out of it. But I think in the afternoon, under the sun, it’s not doing a lot. So probably tomorrow’s first session, if we bat better and bat well, we can reach there.”
