Throughout the years, it has been seen that poking fun at Virat Kohli isn’t the best of ideas. The Indian batter only gets more motivated if someone provokes him and that is why former Australian pacer Brett Lee believes that Ricky Ponting making comments on Kohli’s poor form was a bad move.
While he may be going through a rough patch currently, Lee fears that Kohli will get even more fired up for the Border-Gavaskar series after hearing Ponting’s comments about his form.
“That is a bad move, Ricky. What are you doing? You are going to fire that guy up. He is a world-class player and he will fire up out here,” Lee said on Fox Cricket’s podcast The Follow On.
Earlier, Ponting made headlines after giving his remarks on Kohli’s recent slump in form. The former Australia skipper said that the Indian batter only managing to score 2 Test centuries in last 5 years is a matter of concern for the Men in Blue.
“I saw a stat the other day about Virat – it said he’s only scored two Test hundreds in the last five years. That didn’t seem right to me, but if that is accurate, then that’s, I mean, that’s a concern,” Ponting said.
“There probably wouldn’t be anyone else still playing international cricket as a top-order batsman who’s only scored two Test match hundreds in five years,” Ponting added.
