Smith is injured while batting in the nets in Adelaide on Tuesday for Australia. The former Australian captain took throwdowns from teammate Marnus Labuschagne when the ball bounced and hit his fingers.

This incident has multiplied the injury crisis for Australia as it adds to the already increasing loss of Josh Hazlewood for the second Test match of the ongoing series, which begins Friday.

The Aussies have now been dealt another injury blow as Olympic medalist Josh Hazlewood has been ruled out of the second Test due to side strain. According to a statement released by Cricket Australia, it is a “low-grade left side injury,” putting in doubt the rest of the series for him. It was in the last pink-ball Test played by India on Australian soil that Hazlewood was the pick of the Aussie bowlers when India was rolled for just 36 runs and the right-arm pacer finished up with figures of 5/8 in his five overs.
Australia has summoned two uncapped bowlers as a contingency for Hazlewood. Therefore, Sean Abbot and Brendan Doggett are aboard the squad. For the starting eleven, Scott Boland might be preparing to return to Test with his last Test appearance having been in July 2023 at Adelaide.
