After a lackluster World Cup campaign, Pakistan captain Babar Azam has enlisted the assistance of Australian power-hitter coach Shannon Young to help him restyle his T20 game.
Even though Pakistan did not make it to the Super Eights, they still lost the ICC showcase after Babar scored 120 runs at a strike-rate of 101 in four matches.
When Babar first met Young, the Australian coach of Glenn Maxwell and Jake Fraser-McGurk, they talked about the fundamental abilities needed to hit a powerful shot in the T20 format.
While on a private visit to Lahore, Young was present for the meeting.
Young is recognized for having coached several Australian players and enhanced their ability to hit with force.
When he played for the Delhi Capitals in the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL), rookie batting phenom McGurk lit the place on fire with his range-hitting.
After 123 T20 Internationals, Babarās strike rate is 129. He has been frequently criticized for his poor strike rate and inability to consistently hit sixes in the shortest format.
The 29-year-old was removed as captain of all formats last year after Pakistan failed to qualify for the semifinals of the 50-over World Cup in India.
But he was reinstated as captain in the white ball formats ahead of the T20 World Cup in place of Shaheen Shah Afridi.
