This past Wednesday night’s episode of Dynamite, titled “Winter Is Coming,” featured a match in the Gold League of the Continental Classic, where Don Callis Family’s AEW Unified Champion, Kazuchika Okada, secured a victory over Jack Perry of Jurassic Express. This loss marked Perry’s first in the tournament, putting his record at 0-2. He took on Darby Allin’s win-loss record after Allin withdrew from the tournament.
Bryan Alvarez discussed the match on the latest edition of Wrestling Observer Radio, noting that Perry suffered a legitimate ankle injury while performing a dive on Okada. Perry reportedly told officials that he feared he had broken his ankle during the dive, but he pushed through the pain and felt better later on. The good news is that, despite his concerns about a serious injury, he appears to be fine.
Additionally, Alvarez pointed out a concerning moment during the match when Okada hit Perry with a dropkick while he was on the top rope. The cameraman outside was supposed to catch Perry during the fall, but he failed to do so as planned.
It’s worth noting that Perry was already a replacement for Darby Allin in the tournament after Allin was forced to withdraw due to injury and was not cleared to compete. Dave Meltzer previously reported on Wrestling Observer Radio that AEW President Tony Khan was waiting to announce the latest Continental Classic matchups until he could confirm who was healthy and ready to participate. For now, it seems Perry will be able to continue in the tournament, as he appears uninjured.
