This past Saturday night, Lucha Libre AAA aired an episode on FOX featuring a singles match between The Original El Grande Americano and Octagón Jr. The bout lasted just under five and a half minutes, concluding with Americano pulling off Octagón’s mask and forcing him to tap out to an ankle lock. However, unmasking a wrestler in AAA typically results in a disqualification.
According to BodySlam+, sources from both AAA and WWE indicated that this incident was not part of the planned match. There was a miscommunication, and the referee failed to call for the disqualification. Octagón tapped out immediately after being unmasked, which triggered a significant backlash from the audience. The report also mentioned that both the English and Spanish commentary teams were left confused by the ending due to the miscommunication.
After the match, The Original El Grande Americano was confronted by El Grande Americano II, which led to a brawl between the two. Americano II challenged The Original El Grande Americano to a mask vs. mask match, scheduled for AAA Noche de Los Grandes on May 30th, although AAA has yet to officially announce that date.
