Dave Meltzer reported in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that ticket sales for WWE WrestleMania 42 are currently lagging behind last year’s figures at the same point in the calendar. As of now, Night 1 has sold 38,711 tickets, including both paid and complimentary, while Night 2 has sold 40,333 tickets, bringing the total combined sales to 79,044.
This represents a year-over-year decline of 18.8%. The gap had recently narrowed to 13.3% after a strong 31.6% increase two weeks ago. However, ticket sales have struggled since then, despite a 25% discount promotion and the announcement of John Cena as the host for the event, which reversed the trend back to an 18.8% decline compared to last year.
Meltzer also noted that the secondary-market prices for tickets are approximately $179 for Night 1 and $199 for Night 2. Compared to last year, ticket prices for Night 1 have decreased by 21.5% on the secondary market, while Night 2 prices have only dropped by 9.1%, partly due to the appeal of the match between Roman Reigns and CM Punk.
Additionally, Meltzer mentioned that although WrestleMania 42 is still expected to attract large crowds, ticket sales for other events are less impressive. The April 17 episode of WWE SmackDown at T-Mobile Arena has only sold 5,749 tickets, while the April 20 episode of RAW after WrestleMania has sold 7,329 tickets. The WWE Hall of Fame ceremony has recorded 2,059 tickets sold.
