Bangladesh draw series as Mehidy Hasan Miraz shines

Bangladesh ended the second Test match on Day 3 in dominant fashion and drew the series 1-1 at Chattogram’s Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium. The home team made an epic comeback in the game after facing a narrow loss in the first Test to the Craign Ervine-led side.

The Test match was still neck-and-neck after Stumps the previous day, but the third day started with dominance by the Bangladesh tail. The fifty-plus eighth and ninth wicket partnership was what helped the team get to a huge score of 444 and secured an unassailable lead of 217 runs. The Bangladeshi batters kept the runs flowing despite certain interruptions due to rain.

While the Bangla Tigers had a great day with the bat, where they took control of both innings, the same could not be said about the Zimbabwe innings. The visiting team once again failed to decode the Bangladesh spin attack and were eventually bundled out for just 111. The highest score for the team in the second innings was Ben Curran, who scored 46 off 103 deliveries to try and keep his side in the game, but in absolute vain as the visitors eventually lost by an innings and 106 runs.

Mehidy masterclass takes game away from Chevrons

Mehidy Hasan Miraz once again emerged as the top performer for the Najmul Hossain Shanto-led side. Though he did not have an eventful first innings with the ball, he went on to score a crucial century with the bat, scoring 104 off 162 deliveries. The star all-rounder made sure the visitors never got away with the game with a five wicket haul in the second innings and ensured the Test match finished in three days.

This was another series that belonged to Mehidy who scored 116 runs and took 15 wickets across the series. He was rightfully adjudged the Player of the Match as well as the Player of the Series for his all-round performance for the team.
