Bangladesh has made their announcement of a 16-member squad for the two-match Test series with India which is set to commence on September 19. In comparison to the team they paraded during their historic series win over Pakistan away from home, this squad has undergone one alteration. The left arm pacer who is affected by an injury called Shoriful Islam would not participate in these Test matches while Jaker Ali has been added.
According to sources, Shoriful picked up a torn groin muscle during the first Test match against Pakistan and has not recovered from it fully yet. Strangely, no other fast bowlers have been chosen to take his place but instead Jaker Ali was called up despite not playing any game in that format at international level. Recently he scored a century for Bangladesh A against Pakistan and so far he has featured in 17 T20 internationals for them also. So far, he has participated in 49 first-class matches accumulating 2862 runs at a mean of 41.47 including four hundreds and nineteen fifties.
After stunning Pakistan 2-0 in their previous series, Bangladesh is heading toward India as winners having comprehensively beaten them by six wickets respectively (10 wickets). Barring this encounter, Bangladesh have never won even one Test meet against Pakistan whereas India have triumphed 11 times while drawing two games out of thirteen faced thus far (one with them remaining undefeated). The Najmul Hossain Shanto-led side is therefore looking to build on the test series win in Pakistan but that will require them to play their best cricket as India have a magnificent home record to defend having not lost a single Test series since 2012.
Bangladesh squad for India Test series: Najmul Hossain Shanto (C), Shadman Islam, Zakir Hasan, Mominul Haque, Mushfiqur Rahim, Shakib Al Hasan, Litton Das, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Jaker Ali, Taskin Ahmed, Hasan Mahmud, Nahid Rana, Taijul Islam, Mahmudul Hasan Joy, Nayeem Hasan, Khaled Ahmed
