Barbados Pride announce 2024 Super 50 Over squad

The Barbados Pride squad for the upcoming CG United CWI Regional Super 50 tournament has been revealed, with captain Kyle Mayers emphasising an aggressive and fearless approach.

During a press conference earlier today, Mayers shared his vision for the team, highlighting the focus on a positive, attacking style of play.

“I just want my team to play as positively as possible, be brave and be smart. That’s my philosophy, and I try to spread that to most of them, even the reserves,” said the 32 year old allrounder. He explained that the selection process was guided by the desire to build a team capable of taking the initiative on the field.

“While selecting a team, I mentioned to the chairman and coach that I’m looking for my team to be positive, to take the first punch, and put teams on the back foot,” Mayers continued. “With this young team, I think they’re fearless and capable of doing it. But in the end, my game is very positive.”

Barbados Pride will be looking to reclaim the regional 50-over title, which they last won in the 2016-17 season, marking their eighth championship.

There are seven changes from last year’s Pride squad as Shai Hope (last year’s captain) and Roston Chase are away on international duty for the away Sri Lanka T20 series. West Indies test captain Kraigg Brathwaite is missing perhaps as a casualty of the decision to play more attacking cricket. Shamarh Brooks, Jair McAllister and Roshon Primus also miss out of the squad. Akeem Jordan drops down to being a reserve this year.

In their stead, hard hitting Barbados Royal opener Kadeem Alleyne, Kevin Wickham and Leniko Boucher are in the squad alongside fellow Royal Nyeem Young, Chemar Holder, Matthew Jones and Demetrius Richards.
