During the final of the Women’s Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2024 on Thursday at the Brian Lara Stadium in Tarouba, Trinidad, the Barbados Royals had a special way of celebrating. Aaliyah Alleyne, Qiana Joseph, and Rashada Williams were very happy when TKR’s Jannilea Glasgow got out.
Alleyne threw a long ball near the off-stump, and Glasgow tried to hit it over the field by moving her front leg. However, she didn’t hit the ball well, and Amanda-Jade Wellington caught it easily by running backward from mid-off.
After that, Alleyne called Joseph and Williams over, and the three of them did a special celebration together. The wicket was very important for the Royals because Glasgow was doing well, scoring 24 runs from 31 balls with the help of three boundaries.
Alleyne was named Player of the Match after the Royals won against the Knights by four wickets to take the championship. Besides getting Glasgow out, she also got the wickets of Shikha Pandey, Chedean Nation, and Zaida James, finishing with impressive stats of 4-0-21-4.
Her performance helped the Royals keep the Knights to a low score of 93 for eight. She also got help from her team captain, Hayley Matthews, who got two important wickets. Later, the Royals reached the target with five overs remaining in their innings.
Chamari Athapaththu and Matthews laid a strong foundation for the run chase by scoring 48 runs together in the first 6.1 overs. Athapaththu contributed 39 runs from 47 balls, hitting seven fours, and the Royals won comfortably with five overs remaining.
Samara Ramnath of the Knight Riders performed well, taking two wickets, but her performance was not enough for the Knight Riders to secure victory in the match.
