Goals from Bryan Mbeumo and Bruno Fernandes earned Manchester United a 2-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday afternoon.

The Lilywhites were reduced to 10 men in the first half at Old Trafford when captain Cristian Romero was sent off for a foul on Casemiro, and United went ahead shortly after through Mbeumo.

Captain Fernandes then doubled the Red Devils’ lead late on, earning Michael Carrick a fourth consecutive victory since taking charge of the club last month.

Now, though, it appears that United could soon face a battle to keep hold of one of their most important players.

As per CaughtOffside, Spanish giants Barcelona have identified United centre-back Lisandro Martinez as a potential transfer target.

The report claims that the La Liga champions are admirers of the Argentine defender, who has impressed for United in recent months.

Martinez, 28, joined United from Dutch side Ajax back in 2022, following Erik ten Hag from Amsterdam to Manchester when the Dutchman was appointed as the Red Devils’ head coach.

He has since made more than 100 appearances for Man United across all competitions, including 13 games so far this term.

Martinez is under contract at Old Trafford until the end of the 2026/27 season, but the report reveals that United have the option to extend that deal by a further 12 months.

Despite that, it is claimed that Barcelona are one of a number of teams showing interest in the Argentina international, with the Spanish side the only club whose interest has been confirmed.

The report suggests that Martinez could be given a price tag of around £47 million if he is to be put up for sale.

It is also claimed that Manchester United’s current stance is that Martinez is not for sale due to his importance to the squad.
