Chief Executive Officer of the Barbados Agricultural Society (BAS) James Paul, has expressed strong concerns over the recent introduction of Savannah Milk from Guyana into the local market.
Paul voiced frustration over what he described as a lack of proper consultation with local dairy producers.
“Local milk producers have made a substantial investment. They are making upgrades to their farms and now they hear about this. They didn’t even have the courtesy of being informed that this was being undertaken,” Paul lamented. “Something definitely has gone wrong; this is not what we are accustomed to.”
Paul said the importation of Savannah Milk undermined the hard work and investments made by local farmers.
“There is no shortage of milk in the industry so why are we doing this? Whose agenda are we following?” he questioned. (CLM)
