Rohit-Gambhir Divide?

Pakistan former cricketer Basit Ali claimed India’s poor performance in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. He sparked concerns regarding an internal rift between Rohit Sharma and Gautam Gambhir. India has suffered a disappointing defeat in the Adelaide Test and in the ongoing Third Test also India’s performance has not improved. He raised questions about leadership and strategy.

“Rohit Sharma and Gautam Gambhir are not on the same page, be it the one-day tournament in Sri Lanka; Bangladesh, which was a weak series; or the New Zealand series after that,” said Basit.

Decisions Under Check

Basit Ali has pointed out many questions regarding India’s decisions, particularly on team’s selection and strategy. In the first three Tests, India has played with three different spinners. This showed an inconsistent approach of the team.

“I can explain it very easily,” Basit said. “In all three Tests matches, a different spinner played. In two Test matches, they batted after winning the toss, but here they chose to bowl. There are three left-handers in the Australian batting….So why not (Washington) Sundar and why not (Ravichandran) Ashwin? Anybody who understands cricket will definitely talk about it.”

While Ravichandran Ashwin and Washington Sundar were there in the last two matches, Ravindra Jadeja has now bought in the Gabba Test. Basit Ali has criticised this. mobe and suggested that Ashwin or Sundar could have been more effective.

Additionally, India’s decision to bowl first at Gabba Test was highly criticised. Due to the interruption by rain, only Jasprit Bumrah had played well. Basit Ali has also questioned India’s over dependence on Bumrah and the absence of a left-arm pacer, which could have put some pressure on Australia’s dominating batting, particularly on  Travis Head.

Rohit- Gambhir Dynamics

Basit Ali has questioned that Rohit Sharma and Gautam Gambhir’s partnership lacks coordination as compared to previous head coach, Rahul Dravid. The alleged division, according to Basit Ali, has impacted the team’s performance.

He has highlighted that India’s tactical errors, such as field placement and bowling combinations indicate deeper issues in leadership. The lack of clarity has exposed India’s weaknesses with both batting and bowling against the dominating Australian team.Despite the challenges, Jasprit Bumrah has maintained his form.
