BCB President Faruque Ahmed Informed Shakib Cleared to Play

Veteran cricketer Shakib Al Hasan has been named in a First Information Report (FIR) related to a murder case linked to recent violent protests in Bangladesh. Despite this, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has confirmed that Shakib will continue his international cricket commitments. The BCB’s decision indicates their confidence in Shakib’s ability to focus on his professional duties amidst these legal challenges. His continued participation in international matches reflects the board’s support as the situation unfolds.

BCB Gave Statement Over Shakib Al Hasan:

The BCB President stated that despite receiving a legal notice from a Supreme Court lawyer, Shakib Al Hasan will continue representing Bangladesh. The notice suggested that Shakib should be excluded from the national team due to his involvement in a legal case, referencing ICC regulations. However, the BCB has decided to allow the experienced all-rounder to remain in the squad, indicating their support for Shakib as he faces these legal challenges.

BCB president Faruque Ahmed said, ” He (Shakib) will continue playing. We received a legal notice regarding bringing him back and we replied to them saying this [that he will continue to play].”

The BCB President confirmed that Shakib Al Hasan will remain in the team until a court ruling determines his guilt. He also mentioned plans to include Shakib in the squad for the upcoming tour of India next month. Despite the ongoing legal situation, the BCB intends to keep Shakib active in international cricket, showing their trust in his abilities and presumption of innocence until proven otherwise.

He further said, “ Right now the FIR is filed and it is in the initial stage and there are a lot of steps after this and until he is proven guilty we will make him play. The Bangladesh team will go to India after the Pakistan series and we want him in that series as well. He is our contracted player and if necessary we will give him legal assistance.”

After the Pakistan tour, the all-rounder won’t return to Bangladesh but will head to England to participate in a four-day match for Surrey. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has granted him a No-Objection Certificate (NOC), allowing him to take part in the match. His immediate focus will be on this opportunity with Surrey.

He added, “ He has not played red-ball cricket for a while and that is why we have given him an NOC to play for Surrey as it will help him to adjust with red-ball cricket more than anything else.”

Sakib Plays Crucial Role in 1st Test:

Shakib Al Hasan was instrumental in securing Bangladesh’s historic victory over Pakistan in Rawalpindi, taking three crucial wickets and delivering 16 consecutive overs in the final innings. His relentless performance was key to the visitors’ win. Next, Bangladesh will tour India, where they are scheduled to play a two-match Test series, followed by a three-match T20I series, continuing their challenging international cricket journey.
