BCCI announces India A squad for Emerging Teams Asia Cup 2024, Tilak Verma to lead

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the India A squad for the upcoming Men’s T20 Emerging Teams Asia Cup 2024, with Tilak Varma appointed as captain. The tournament will take place in Oman from October 18 to 27, marking the first time this competition will be held in a T20 format.

The 15-member squad features a blend of promising young talent and experienced players, reflecting India’s commitment to nurturing its future stars. Tilak Varma, who has already made his mark in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and the senior national team, will lead the side. His leadership is expected to guide the team through this competitive tournament.

The squad also includes several players who have made significant contributions in domestic cricket and the IPL. Notably, four players hail from Punjab, the champions of the recent Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy: Abhishek Sharma, Ramandeep Singh, Prabh Simran Singh and Nehal Wadhera. Their inclusion reflects BCCI’s strategy of investing in players who have proven themselves at various levels.

In addition to these players, Haryana’s left-arm spinning allrounder Nishant Sindhu and Delhi’s promising batters Ayush Badoni and Anuj Rawat add depth to the batting lineup.

The bowling department features a mix of pace and spin options. Medium pacers Anshul Kamboj, Vaibhav Arora, Aqib Khan and Rasikh Salam will lead the pace attack. The spin department includes off-spinner Hrithik Shokeen, left-arm spinner Sai Kishore and leg-spinner Rahul Chahar, providing a well-rounded bowling unit capable of adapting to different conditions.

Men’s T20 Emerging Teams Asia Cup 2024: Group Composition

India A has been placed in Group B alongside Pakistan A, UAE and Oman. Meanwhile, Group A consists of Sri Lanka A, Bangladesh A, Afghanistan A and Hong Kong. The top two teams from each group will advance to the semifinals, with the final scheduled for October 27.
