BCCI Announces Review of Controversial Two-Bouncer and Impact Player Rules

BCCI Announces Review of Controversial Two-Bouncer and Impact Player Rules

In addition to the much-discussed Impact Player rule, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is currently considering two important playing conditions from the previous domestic and Indian Premier League (IPL) season.

There are hints that a review is being contemplated, but the board is unsure whether to keep the two-bouncer clause. According to a source in Cricbuzz, these regulations are primarily meant for the men’s T20 interstate tournament, known as the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT).

Bowlers can now use two bouncers in an over in domestic cricket and the Indian Premier League thanks to the introduction of the two-bouncer rule last season.

In contrast, just one bouncer is allowed per over in international cricket. Although the country’s cricketing community generally embraced the regulation, particularly during the IPL, it is known that the BCCI is presently examining its application and taking possible modifications into consideration.

An official from a state unit stated, “We understand that Impact Player and two bouncer rules are the key points and no decision has been taken.”

The continuation of these regulations in the IPL will depend on whether or not they are added to the SMAT.

Despite their prior assurances that the information would be released shortly, the BCCI’s continual delay in disclosing the SMAT playing conditions has been a problem.

The BCCI published the regulations, guidelines, and playing conditions for the other domestic events that are slated for the forthcoming season more than three weeks ago.

The state associations are still unaware, nevertheless, of the continuation of two particular rules.

The BCCI said in a letter to the state units dated August 5th, “We are providing the following materials for your review with regard to the Domestic Season 2024–2025. 1. Rules for the participating teams from the host associations; 2. Playing conditions; Men’s and Women’s T20: Women’s U-15; Men’s Multi Day; Women’s One Day; Women’s Multi Day.”

An other comment in the telegram said, “Men’s T20 Playing Conditions will be shared shortly.” The SMAT tournament is scheduled to start in November.

Cricket lovers continue to disagree on the Impact Player rule. One of the sport’s leading personalities, Zaheer Khan, recently expressed support for the rule. Nonetheless, it is commonly recognized that a considerable portion of players and coaches have divergent viewpoints on this issue.

“There has been a debate around the impact sub rule. I’m going on record to say that I’m all for it. It has definitely given opportunities to a lot of uncapped Indian talents. It is something you will see in the mega auction when teams will be looking at them.”

“As far as all-rounders are concerned, right now there is no space for a half a” rounder because of the impact sub (ru But if you are a genuine all-rounder, (then) no one can stop you. There is always going to be a value addition with the ability with bat and ball,” Zaheer said recently in Kolkata during a Lucknow Super Giant event.

Jay Shah, the secretary of the BCCI, had stated that a call will be received and shared shortly.
