BCCI Extends WPL 2025 Retention Deadline

The BCCI wrote to the franchises yesterday (October 15) about the new development.

In a recent development coming in, the retention deadline for the upcoming Women’s Premier League (WPL 2025) auction has been extended further and set for a new date.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) wrote to the franchises yesterday (October 15) about the new development.

While initially, the franchises had time up to October 15 to submit the list of players they intend to keep, they will now get up till November 7 to submit the list.

For the unversed, each team is allowed a squad of 18 players, including six international players. Similar to the Indian Premier League (IPL), teams have the option to release players annually. The BCCI will organize a mini-auction based on player retention, though the WPL 2025 auction date is yet to be confirmed. For the third season, the auction budget has been raised to INR 15 crores, following increases from INR 12 crores in the first season and INR 13.5 crores in the second season.

BCCI yet to announce WPL 2025 tournament details

The BCCI has yet to confirm the dates and location for the third season, but it is anticipated to take place in the February-March period, similar to the timing of the first two seasons. According to a Cricbuzz report, franchises stated that they believe it will be held during this timeframe, as the senior women’s domestic season concludes by mid-January.
