BCCI Eyes IPL-Style League for Retired Cricketers

The Board of Cricket Control in India (BCCI) is reportedly considering the launch of a new league similar to the Indian Premier League (IPL) but exclusively for retired cricketers. This move comes after the success of several privately organized Legends tournaments, where former cricket stars like Sachin Tendulkar, Yuvraj Singh, and Harbhajan Singh have continued to captivate fans post-retirement.

According to a report from Dainik Jagran, the idea for this new league was suggested by a group of former Indian cricketers led by Yuvraj Singh, following their victory in the World Championship of Legends 2024, where they defeated Pakistan in the final. The proposed tournament would provide a platform for retired players to showcase their skills once again, and it has sparked interest among other international legends, including Muttiah Muralitharan, Chris Gayle, and AB de Villiers.

A BCCI official confirmed that while the proposal is under consideration, it is unlikely that the tournament will be launched this year. The league, if approved, would feature players who have retired from international cricket and are no longer participating in the IPL. The potential launch of this league could make the BCCI the first cricket board to directly organize a Legends league, setting a new trend in the cricketing world.

The success of such a league could further fuel the growing trend of cricket leagues for retired players, offering fans more opportunities to see their favorite stars in action.
