BCCI might remove ‘Impact Player Policy’ to increase number of players an IPL franchise can retain

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is most likely to have a change in the player retention rule and the ‘impact player rule’ for the Indian Premier League (IPL) in the next few days. There are different opinions between the franchises on the number of players that can be possibly retained before the mega auction.

“We have taken the feedback from team owners. So far, nobody is on the same page and everyone has their own theory about the retentions, be it the franchise or in the BCCI. We will soon discuss all the aspects internally and announce it,” a source said.

Although nothing has yet been finalised, the impact player rule might get removed. It is also considered for a franchise to retain up to as much as six players.

“It may be between four to six players. Also, you may not see impact player rule. Nothing is final for now and the impact player rule will be discussed as well.”
