BCCI set to start a new league like IPL featuring players like Sachin, Yuvraj Brett Lee: Reports

In recent years, many cricket leagues have emerged, featuring former star players such as Sachin Tendulkar, Yuvraj Singh, Suresh Raina, Harbhajan Singh, Brett Lee, and Muttiah Muralitharan. It has been reported that a suggestion has been made to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to create a ‘legends league’ of their own.

A report in Dainik Jagran states that some ex-Indian cricketers who have participated in these leagues met with BCCI’s Jay Shah and shared their desire to organize a tournament similar to the Indian Premier League.

“We’ve gotten a suggestion from some retired cricket players about this. We’re thinking about it,” a person from the BCCI told a newspaper.

The BCCI hasn’t done anything specific about the idea yet, and it’s not likely that this kind of tournament will start soon. But it might happen in 2025.

This competition will include players who have stopped playing in international cricket and the IPL.

Competitions like the World Championship of Legends, Global Legends League, and Legends League include former players from all over the world. But these events are put together by private groups, not by national cricket organizations.

The World Championship of Legends, which an Indian team led by Yuvraj won, took place in Birmingham earlier this year. The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) gave it’s approval for the event.
