Following the Indian team’s recent poor performances in red-ball cricket, the BCCI has been forced to take strict measures regarding the travel of the players’ wives and other family members.
According to a report by IANS, the Indian cricket board has restricted the players’ wives and families from accompanying them on tours in order to improve their focus and performance.
This massive decision was made during the review meeting held on Saturday in Mumbai, which was attended by the likes of head coach Gautam Gambhir, chief selector Ajit Agarkar and skipper Rohit Sharma.
The BCCI has reinstated the earlier rule which was scrapped during the Covid-19 pandemic, limiting the presence of family members during tours.
According to the report, the families of the cricketers won’t be allowed to travel with the players for the entirety of the tour. For series or tournaments going for more than 45 days, the families can join the players for up to 14 days, while for shorter tours, the limit has been set for up to 7 days.
This step has been taken because the officials believe that having families present can lead to a lapse in concentration and hamper the players’ performances. Moreover, the BCCI has introduced another rule which states that the players will have to travel with the team at all times.
