The Secretary of Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Jay Shah is expected to hold discussions with ICC officials and PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi to resolve the ongoing problem regarding the deadlines of Champions Trophy as reported by ARY News. India made it clear that they will not come to Pakistan for that reason while PCB has remained a rigid structure where there is no concept of moving to a ‘hybrid’ structure. As per the infor, Jay Shah is stated to meet the ICC officials in Dubai, and in due course, he shall communicate with Naqvi through a phone call concerning the problem and its possible solution.
Pakistan on Thursday made Sumair Ahmad Syed the chief operating officer of the Champions Trophy, an event which its board knows very well is shrouded in a lot of doubt regarding its holding.
In a message released by the PCB, its chairman, Mr Mohsin Naqvi, restated PCB’s position that it plans to carry out the entire tournament from within Pakistan.
The BCCI earlier let ICC know that it cannot agree to send the Indian players to Pakistan for the 50-over event and that was again communicated to the PCB.
Naqvi, for his part, was positive about Syed’s capabilities, stating that he was an “exceptionally organised professional”.
“Sumair is an extraordinarily well-planned individual and has developed a measure of administrative experience behind him. Apart from his love for cricket which knows no bounds, I firmly believe he will present ICC Champions Trophy 2025 in the best way possible for all; players, officials and fans,” he stated.
Syed continued, “It is also worth noting that the initiative is aimed at holding ICC Champions Trophy 2025 in Pakistan, which will demonstrate to the world the country’s competence in organizing such major sporting events. Players and supporters from different parts of the globe are expected to visit the country during the tournament owing to its love for cricket and famous hospitality.” Syed has said, “Advance preparation for the event is going on with upgrades of the stadium almost done and key meetings taking place with the International Cricket Council.”
