BCCI has declined IC’s offer to host the upcoming Women’s T20 World Cup which was scheduled to be held in October in Bangladesh. BCCI secretary Jay Shah gave confirmation about this decision. As India is out of running right now, Sri Lanka and UAE are left as the remaining potential hosts. The ICC is expected to make a final decision on this matter by August 20.
“They [ICC] have asked us if we would conduct the World Cup. I have categorically said no. We’re in the monsoon and on top of that we will host the Women’s ODI World Cup next year. I don’t want to give any kind of signals that I want to hold consecutive World Cups,” said Jay Shah.
The ICC has been considering changing the location of the Women’s T20 World Cup due to recent scenario of distress in Bangladesh. Bangladesh has been facing a big stroll taking in consideration the anti-government protesters that has resulted in a number of fatalities and the running of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s government. An ICC official has stated earlier this week that the situation in Bangladesh is under observation and all the other potential hosts are being under evaluation.
“The ICC is closely monitoring developments in co-ordination with the Bangladesh Cricket Board [BCB], their security agencies and our own independent security consultants. Our priority is the safety and well-being of all participants,” an ICC statement said.
Bangladesh is facing significant problems in their way to host the upcoming Women’s T20 World Cup. Travel advisors who have been issued by major cricketing nations namely England, Australia, and India, pose a major challenge for Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB).
The recent change of the government has put the BCB in a state of chaos, as key officials such as former president and sports minister are not out of office. This absence of board directors has further increased the problem.
