BCCI’s meeting raised questions at Rohit and Gambhir after India lost to NZ

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) recently had a six hour long meeting in order to discuss India’s disappointing Test series loss to New Zealand. The review was mainly focused on various aspects of team’s performance, the decision to put Jasprit Bumrah to rest, and mainly the coaching style of Gautam Gambhir.

Main individuals of the Indian team, namely Rohit Sharma, chairman of the selection committee, Ajit Agarkar, head coach Gautam Gambhir, the secretary of BCCI Jay Shah, and the president Roger Binny, all had taken part in the meeting.

In the meeting, questions were raised about certain type of decisions being made by the team management through h whole series. There were discussions related to the coaching style of Gambhir as well. This mainly had the focus on how his style significantly differs from that of his predecessor Rahul Dravid, and also that how the team is adapting according to this new approach.

It was a six hour marathon meeting which was obviously on cards after such a debacle. India are going on a tour of Australia and the BCCI would obviously like to ensure that the team is back on track and would like to know how the think-tank are going about it,” said a senior BCCI source.

The BCCI officials had also expressed concerns about the decision to rest the team’s vice captain Jasprit Bumrah for the third time. Along with that, questions were also raised about the choice of team for a pitch that is rank turning, especially now that they have lost a match on a similar pitch in Pune.

Bumrah’s absence was discussed although it was a precautionary move. Opting for a rank turner despite India not faring well on these tracks are some of the issues that came up for discussion,” the source informed.
